Rugby league has a long history in Australia, with the ARL previously being the premier competition. The Super League war in the mid-1990s led to a period of turmoil and competition between two rival leagues. Eventually, the NRL was formed to bring stability and unite the sport.

Since its inception, the NRL has become a highly popular and competitive league, showcasing some of the best rugby league talent in the world. The league has produced numerous memorable moments, iconic players, and has grown to be a significant part of Australian and New Zealand sporting culture.
